Adding New Color Options to iMovie Title Text

In most cases, the color palette offered by Apple in iMovie will suit your needs, but what about those times when you want to make a bolder statement, or the image that the title is to appear over is very light? This small ResEdit modification will allow you to modify the color choices of the title text. The Kaleidoscope Scheme featured in these window snapshots is MacQNX by Maury McCown.

Open a copy of iMovie in ResEdit and scroll around until you find the CLUT resources.

Open them with a double click.

There is only one ID, number 128, the Title Colors.

Open it with a double click.

Unfortunately, you cannot add additional colors to the palette, but you can change one of the existing pastel offerings to something a little bolder!

Double clicking on any of the existing colors brings up the Apple Color Picker. Select your new color and close the Color Picker.

Save your work and quit ResEdit. Launch your modified copy of iMovie and the color popup menu in the Title palette will have your new color! For more iMovie tips, see Using iMovie without a Digital Video camera.
